A kitchen can feel dated long before the cupboards underneath are worn out. If you still like the layout and your existing cabinets are structurally sound, replacing the doors and drawer fronts may be worth exploring.
Start by checking how the cabinets are fixed, whether hinges and drawers are working properly, and whether any units have suffered from moisture or movement. Replacement fronts need to fit the existing openings accurately. A professional assessment can help establish what can be retained.
Door style and colour have a big influence on the finished appearance. Shaker fronts create a framed, timeless look; flat-fronted designs can give a more contemporary feel. Handles, end panels and plinths also matter because leaving mismatched details can undermine an otherwise coordinated makeover.
If you are considering new worktops as well, discuss both changes together so the colours and materials complement one another. When the cabinet layout no longer suits daily life or the units are in poor condition, a complete refit may be the better choice.
