Kitchen Makeover or Complete Refit? A Homeowner’s Guide

A straightforward way to decide whether new fronts and worktops are enough or a new fitted kitchen makes more sense.

The first question is not which kitchen colour you like. It is whether the space itself works for you.

If your cupboards are sound, storage is adequate and you are happy with the layout, changing doors, drawer fronts, handles and worktops may be a sensible route. This can create a different visual feel without replacing every unit.

A complete refit may be more appropriate when you need a different layout, additional storage, relocated appliances or substantial repairs to existing cabinetry. A full project also involves more decisions about plumbing, electrics, flooring and preparation. These items should be discussed clearly in the quotation.

There is no reliable universal price for either approach. Kitchen size, materials, fitting complexity and the condition of the existing room all affect the scope. Compare like-for-like written quotations and make sure each includes the same work.
